Avengers: Doomsday - More Returning X-Men Actors Teased

Following a recent report about Avengers: Doomsday's cast, I think there's still hope that we'll be seeing even more returning X-Men actors.

Recent Avengers: Doomsday comments have me hopeful for more returning X-Men actors. While the movie is already shaping up to be a massive celebration of Marvel movie legacies, I think the cast is going to be even bigger than we've currently been told (especially when it comes to the X-Men).

Presently, there are seven returning X-Men actors confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday: Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Kelsey Grammer (Beast), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), James Marsden (Cyclops), and Channing Tatum (Gambit). However, new Avengers: Doomsday comments are teasing that we'll be seeing even more familiar mutant faces.

Chris Claremont Claims Famke Janssen's Jean Grey Is In Avengers: Doomsday

According to legendary veteran X-Men writer Chris Claremont, Famke Janssen’s Jean Grey will reportedly make an appearance in Avengers: Doomsday, despite her absence from any official announcements.

While it's a pretty surprising claim, it carries some legitimate weight. After all, Claremont had previously revealed Chris Evans’ return as Steve Rogers well before Marvel Studios made it official, suggesting Claremont's likely involvement with the upcoming MCU crossover in a consulting capacity.

If this is indeed true and Janssen's Jean Grey is secretly in Doomsday, it potentially opens the door for even more appearances beyond the official cast list.

We May Be Getting More Returning X-Men Than We Think

Jean Grey may only be the beginning. If Marvel is already hiding her involvement, it raises the possibility that other Fox-era X-Men are being kept secret as well.

It would be incredible to see names like Halle Berry’s Storm, Anna Paquin’s Rogue, Shawn Ashmore’s Iceman, and more characters (many of whom still had great cinematic potential). Even brief cameos would be very exciting, perhaps giving us a final farewell before a possible multiversal incursion destroys the X-Men's universe (and likely multiple mutants along with it).

The seven X-Men who've been officially confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday are all kinds of exciting. However, I do think we should expect to see more X-Men beyond that number, especially after Claremont's new comments confirming Jean Grey's apparent role.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to release on December 18th from Marvel Studios.
