EAST LANSING, MI — Not much went right for Indiana men's basketball on Tuesday night as it fell to Michigan State 81-60 at the Breslin Center.
Lamar Wilkerson was the only Hoosier in double figures, putting in 19 points on 6-of-14 shooting (5 of 11 from 3-point range). Indiana was heavily outrebounded at a 37-19 mark. It went six minutes in the second half without a point, a 19-0 Spartans run that was fueled by IU turnovers — MSU scored 29 points off 14 IU turnovers.

Here are three observations:
Late Michigan State run dooms IU basketball
Through seemingly constant "airball" chants from the taunting Michigan State student section, IU seemed to keep their cool and stay competitive.
For about three-quarters of the game.
IU and Michigan State were tied at 53 with 11 minutes left in the game. About five minutes of game time later, Michigan State led, 72-53.
Within that 19-0 run, Reed Bailey and Conor Enright fouled out with over five minutes left in the game. The Spartans scored 12 points off turnovers in that stretch, capitalizing on IU's mounting mistakes.

Tensions boil over during Spartans run
Tensions started to boil over between Bailey and MSU's Carson Cooper.
It happened as Lamar Wilkerson stole the ball from Cooper, hoping to regain some momentum as MSU was on a 15-0 run. As Cooper fought for the ball back, he hooked his arm around Bailey.
After Wilkerson gained possession of the ball, Bailey and Cooper fumbled more near the basket, fighting for positioning. Bailey, who already had four fouls, then shoved Cooper as they got untangled — garnering immediate jeers from the crowd.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementIt was another notch in what already was a bad run for the Hoosiers. Bailey was called for a Flagrant 1 foul, ending his night with six minutes left in the game. Cooper then took his two flagrant shots, furthering Michigan State's run to 17-0, and the Spartans got the ball back.

Conor Enright limited by foul trouble
Enright, who started to find consistency with multiple double-digit games for the Hoosiers in Big Ten play, was limited to just three minutes in the first half because of early foul trouble.
Enright picked up two fouls in the first 1:11 of the game — a shooting foul on Michigan State's first possession and a defensive foul just a minute later.

Foul trouble became an issue throughout the first half for a lot of the IU lineup, too. Fellow starters Tucker DeVries, Sam Alexis and Tayton Conerway all racked up two fouls before the halftime buzzer.
Enright ended up fouling out with five minutes left in the game, limiting his time on the court to just 16 minutes with six points.
